This book is about a girl named Rosie and her granny Torelli. Everyday they cook something new. Her friend was born blind and she did not understand why. She wanted to go to same school as him but she could not. Once she is older, Bailey, her blind friend, comes over and they make soup. There is a new girl on the block who wants Bailey to teach her braille. She gets jealous of the new girl because she is afraid that the new girl will steal Bailey. In the end they all make up and have a big pasta party.

Granny Torelli Makes Soup is one of those books that changed my life. You know how you sometimes read books that are good? Then you sometimes read books that are okay? And you sometimes read books that aren't that good? But then a book comes along that actually changes the way you look at things? This is THAT kind of book. There were times when I was reading this book that I was laughing out loud, I was laughing so hard! But, there were also times when I shed a tear because it was sad, or made me think about events in my own life. What an amazing gift an author has that can do that for their reader! I read this book to my class every year! Last year I had it on the 2009 Battle of the Books list, and it will be on future lists as well! If you want to read a book that explains a lot about life, then this book is for you! I would have never read this book if my friend Mrs. Forshall didn't recommend it to me! Thank you Mrs. Forshall, I loved this book!

I say this book is kind of like my life. Rosie was a funny girl when she kept a dog in her garage to use it to give it to Bailey. That was nice of her. And it was also funny when the story Granny Torrelli told was exactly like the conflict Rosie had (minus the names and Bailey didn't get run over and he didn't hav a dog.
