This book is great if you are love history, but is still a great book if you don't.

Iron Thunder takes place during the American Civil War in New York. It's about a boy, whose family is so poor, that he has to get a job at the age of 12! He becomes an assistant to the designer of the very first iron-clad ship (that's a boat that has iron sides) for the Union army! The confederates hear about the ship, and have spies in New York, who are trying to find out about the ship, and start following our main character around! It gets pretty intense! Read this book and find out how he and his buddies are able to fight off the Confederate spies! This is on my 2010 Battle of the Books list at Kilmer! Plus, you can't go wrong with a book written by the author Avi!

This was not my favorite book by Avi, but I learned a lot about things that happened during the Civil War. I was amazed at the experiences a 12-year-old boy could have and how he solved his problems. It's worth reading!
