What an Awesome Day Today

Reporters: Xavier, Moises, and Danny

Today we started with centers. Next we were doing “Town Hall” which is a readers’ theatre. It is about two students who ask questions to the Mayor and town leaders. We had four mystery readers. They were Christian who is Destiny H.’s brother, Patrick who is Kyle’s brother, Mrs. Sedin, and Miss Mulheim. Miss Martin and Mrs. Mele were in it too. They did a wonderful job. Then we put on our performances. Everyone did a good job. In math we did place value. We had to say the names of 4 and 5 digit numbers. We also did some things with parentheses. Lunch time, yeah! After lunch, we had social studies. We learned about Wheeling in the past and Wheeling now. We made a brochure about our community. We drew pictures and then wrote some things. That day was a busy day.

Wow It's Wednesday

Reporters: Kyle and Gavin

Shizam! In the morning we did reading. In reading we read a new book called Town Hall. It is a readers’ theatre. It happens every five weeks. We love readers’ theatre! First we picked our characters. Mayor was the best part on there. About fourteen people wanted to be mayor. But only four people could have mayor. That was Michael, William, Franky, and Alex. They are lucky. After reading we did math. We made shapes out of trapezoids. It was easy for some of the people, including us. We traced our hand and foot prints and found the area. Then we got to work on the math box.

Then we had lunch. It was chicken patty or pasta with a bosco stick. Recess time. In P.E. we played a game with clothespins. We had to put them on the back of our shirt and run around and try to steal other people’s pins. When we stole a pin, we put it on the front of our shirt. In music we practiced for our performance. We won’t tell you about it because it is a secret and you will have to come and see it to find out. The performance is Cinco de Mayo. After that we came back to our classroom and talked about life cycles. We finished our butterfly books! We made wheel of the butterfly life cycle. This day was fabulous.

Go Haley! Go James!

Terrific Thursday

Reporters: Kaylee, Veronika, and Jean

School is open! We started our day off with guided reading. The blue group read Ants. We also did centers. Junior Achievement came! We got candy!! We got two pieces! This was our last Junior Achievement. We went over all the stuff that we learned. We also sang a song about a kid who wanted to get his mom a present. We were sad it was our last class. After Junior Achievement, we started math. In math we looked at a price sheet and had to estimate prices.

Lunch time! We had Chicken Fajitas! Some had chicken patties. Then we had an assembly! It was 4/5 Musical! Jean's brother was in it. They were so good! Our friend Jake was there too. We knew a lot of the singers. Our favorite part was when they were doing the dances. We can't wait for our musical! Ours is on May 5th. After the assembly we had science. We observed the mealworms and the butterflies! They emerged from their chrysalis.
This was one of the best Terrific Tuesdays ever!

The Windy Wednesday

Reporters: Daniel K. and Solomon

This was the best day ever! WE GOT OUR PEN-PAL LETTERS! We were so happy!! In reading, we read about Chimpanzees. We went over the vocabulary words in the story. Some pictures were taken during reading. In math we were learning about money. We had a sheet with food on it with different prices. We had to put the money into our calculators using a decimal point. For lunch, we had pizza! It was awesome!

After lunch, we went to P.E and music. We had P.E. outside. We played this game called "Super Heroes vs. Villains." It was fun! Then we had science. We reviewed a life cycle of the mealworm and the caterpillar. In our butterfly books, we drew a picture of our favorite butterfly. Solomon's favorite was Palkia. That was also Daniel's favorite. Then we had social studies. We worked on our "Then and Now" packets. Back then the schools were only two rooms. Today in the schools there are about 35 classrooms! And that was our Windy Wednesday!

The Best Day of Our Lives!

Reporters: Destiny H. and Katya

Nice!! This is awesome!! We are back at school. We started off our day with writing our Life is Good. We wrote about our weekends. Then we did reading. In reading we were reading a book about bees. We had a mystery guest!! Can you guess who? It was Veronika's mom! She was a great reader! She was nice! She read the book to us. We also did centers. They were kind of hard and kind of easy. We also had a spelling test.

Then we had math. We were learning about money. We had to cut out words and match them with either dollar, penny, dime, or nickel. Some of the words we had to match were 10 dimes, 100 pennies, and $0.01. It was easy! But some of the words were tricky! It was lunch time!

Science time! We observed our plants. We also observed the mealworms and the chrysalis! Some plants were growing a lot. Solomon's grew the most! It was his bean and his corn plant. We also looked at our plant books and reviewed the life cycle of a plant. The chrysalis look kind of shiny, brown, with some yellow specks. They are about the size of a paper clip. That was our story so, see yeah! Peace out!

It was Alex and Solomon's birthday on the weekend! Happy birthday!!!!

Yayyy Yayyy! We are doing MAP testing! Today we did testing in math. It was pretty easy for some of us! Then after testing, we did guided reading. In our groups we played a game called Pictionary. It was very fun! One person is drawing a word and the other people have to try to guess the word that they are drawing. The words were spelling and robust vocabulary words. Then the rest of the time we had centers.

Yesss!! Junior Achievement came!! In Junior Achievement we learned about communities. We were voting for which mayor to takeover our town. There were three mayors. Mayor 1 wanted an animal shelter. Mayor 2 wanted Legoland. Mayor 3 wanted a soccer field. We made a list of pros and cons for each thing. After the vote, Mayor 1 won. After Junior Achievement it was lunch time!!

After lunch we had library. In library we read an award winning book called The Lion and the Mouse. It was awesome baby! We also got to check out some new books. After library, we did social studies. In social studies, we started off with centers. We had to go to each center and write about what we knew about the word. Some of the words were neighbors, neighborhood, rural, and suburban. Then we read a book called Our Grandparents' World and Ours. It was about how a kid asked his grandparents what their life was like in the old days. Today we have T.Vs and in the old day's they had T.Vs but no remotes. Wahhh!! No remotes! They had fat pencils and today we have skinny pencils! This was a wonderful, fantastic Thursday!

Tutu Tuesday

Reporters: Daniel, Hunter, and William

221 Tuesday! Today is Test Tuesday, why can't it be Wacky Wednesday? Right in the morning we put our backpacks on the hooks. Some people put their stuff on Gavin's hook so he threw it off! It was hilarious! In the morning we were learning about weight in math. Why can't women tell you how much they weigh? Men will never know! We weighed Jasmine and found out her weight. Also in math, everyone brought up two items that they thought weighed the same. We brought our items up to our teacher to have her weigh them. Only two people won. They were Kyle and William. It was very hard! In reading we drew the bugs that we thought were the most interesting. Some people drew a flies, hairy spiders, and bees. Someone had a tarantula in their house and held it! Franky, Steve, Destiny, and William brought apples for our mealworm friends!

After lunch, we had gym and music. We ran the half mile. It took some us 3:16 and some took longer and took 6:36. Then we had Science. We learned about caterpillars and mealworms. We learned how the larvae morphed. We also talked about egg, seed, sprout, and seedlings. This is a plant life cycle. That wraps up our taco Tuesday. (haha we didn't have tacos)

This is the plant life cycle from our book!

The Coolest Monday

Reporters: Jean and Erica

Oh my goodness! We started our day off by taking a test in the computer lab. We were nervous and sweaty. The computer asked us questions about reading. Each person had a different test. It was kind of hard and kind of easy. Finally!!! It was done! It took a long time.
Now it's time for Life is Good. In our Life is Good we write about our weekend and draw pictures about it. Everyone was working really hard. We also had guided reading and centers. The blue group was reading Monkey Business. When people finished their centers, they got to play a math game.
For math we were doing things with capacity. Capacity is how much something can hold. Our teacher was pouring different size containers into larger containers to see how many it would hold. Some of them were pint, quart, gallon, and cups. She was pouring water and spilled everywhere!

It was lunch time! We had chicken patty and hot dogs. Yummmmmm!!! At recess we played games. Steve played soccer. Then it was science time! We are learning about butterfly cycles. We have caterpillars and mealworms in our class! They are cool! They are awesome! They are amazing and cute! We got to observe the mealworms. There are 13 segments on a mealworm. They have six legs. They are a golden, yellow, brownish color. We observe them with magnifying glasses. Our teacher then read us a good book about mealworms. Also in science, we had to match words to the picture of the mealworm. It was hard for some kids and easy for other kids. Then it was time to go home! Goodbye everybody! We don't want to leave!

Our caterpillars!

An Awesome Thursday and Friday

Reporters: Michael and Steve

Shizam! What an awesome two days! We started off our day with reading. We did guided reading and centers. DING DING DING!! We had a disaster drill! Our class went downstairs and had to go by the wall. Then we had to cover our heads and necks with our hands. We were kneeling on the ground. We were so uncomfortable! We were so relieved it was just a drill though. After the disaster drill we came upstairs and finished reading. Then we had Junior Achievement. Yay yay! We love having Junior Achievement. We looked at maps. We also got fake money because we were pretending to be people working in a community. It was AWESOME! Then we had math and learned about measurements and area. LUNCH TIME! After lunch we didn't have any specials. We were angry! But it's okay because we learned more about butterflies and mealworms

Ohhh yeahhh! Friday was a good day. We had guided reading. Then we learned about mealworms. Mealworms turn into beetles. They also eat a lot. Our mealworms arrived to our class on Friday afternoon! They are gross looking! They are brown and are pointy. Some people wanted to touch them. Then we had lunch. After lunch we had gym and music. In gym we did centers. We played basketball, jumped over things, practiced balancing, and went on carts. In music we practiced songs for our musical! Our musical is May 5th! We are so excited! In science in the afternoon we observed our caterpillars. They got so chubby! Then it was our favorite part of the day...the luck of the draw! Dun dun dunnnnnn! We wanted to see who the winners would be. Shizam! Kyle and Solomon won sit by a friend. Thomas won sitting at a teacher's desk. Gavin and Jasmine won a homework pass. And some other people won! We had an awesome Thursday and Friday!

We had indoor recess because of the weather. Check out some of the things we were doing!

The Best Tuesday and Wednesday

Reporters: Kaylee and Veronika

We were really looking forward to coming to school to see if the caterpillars have arrived. But they didn't. Noooo!! We were sad. In science we watched two movies. One was a 9 minute video about a caterpillar turning into a butterfly in slow motion. It was cool! That is an example of a life cycle. We saw the pupa and the chrysalis! The other movie we watched was about butterflies, moths, and bees.

On Tuesday we had a bus evacuation drill. We had to go outside on a bus and listen to the bus driver. The bus driver was telling us what to do in an emergency. If there is a fire in the front of the bus, we learned we need to exit from the back of the bus. We practiced jumping off the back of the bus! It was awesome!

In math we have been talking about perimeter and area. In reading we did a sort with our vocabulary words. It was kind of hard and kind of easy. We also had to draw what we do if we saw a purple cow. Our teacher made the best purple cow out there! Some of the pictures were funny! Kaylee drew her smiling at the purple cow and her thinking to run away. Veronika drew the cow and she was going to ride it!

We had fun learning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our drawings of what we would do if we say a purple cow!

The Best School Day Ever!!!!

Reporters: Franky and Solomon

We had an awesome time at school! It's good to be back from spring break! To start our day off, we did our "Life is Good." We wrote about our spring break! We had a lot to write about so we felt good! We used bold beginnings, excellent word choice, and mighty middles in our writing. Before spring break we played a capitalization game that helped us with our writing. It made us smart! It was awesome!!!! Then we did a game called "Splat!" So every time there was a punctuation mark we had to say a funny word or sentence. We had to say "Hey you, do you eat lasagna?" every time there was a question mark. It was hard but funny! In math, we measured our wrists, necks, and ankles using a tape measure. We also found the perimeter of things! We played a math game!!!! It was the Number-Grid Difference Game. We had cards and had to flip two cards over. We had to combine our numbers to make a larger number and put it on a number grid. Then we had to find the difference between our number and our partner's number.
It was lunch time! We had chicken nuggets and chicken patties. Nobody ordered the chicken patty! In the afternoon we had science. We had to write about an animal and their life cycle. We got a blue science journal. Some of the animals we researched were salmon and whales. Other people had dogs, penguins, and cats. That day was perfect!

Thursday!

Reporters: The Entire Class

We had the best day ever at the Fiber Craft field trip!!! We went on the bus. We were early so we had to wait on the bus for a little bit. When we walked into the doors we met two ladies. Their names were Rachel and Shannon. We each got a name tag.

First, we made people out of foam. The foam people had paper shirts that had a place where we wrote our names, our age, our favorite color, and our favorite things. After we were done with the foam people, we went into the warehouse. Oh my gosh!! There were boxes everywhere!!!!!! We saw a shrink wrapping machine! That is a plastic roll that was attached to a machine and it rolls around the boxes so the boxes stay together. That was cool! Then we got to walk on a semi truck where they put the boxes. After we were on the truck, we walked across the whole warehouse and counted our steps. It took us 200 steps to get across!! We saw them putting the boxes up and down on a machine. The machine is called a forklift. All of us went back to the place where we made the foam people.

Then we made different things made out of foam. We made some dinosaurs. Then we did a thing to check our nose. It was a sniff project. We had to smell something and match the sticker with the smell. We also made St. Patrick’s Day projects. Then we ate lunch. It was nice that they paid for our lunch! After lunch we watched a movie. At the end they gave us goodie bags! We were so excited! They were so nice. Our class had the best field trip ever!

Awesome Tuesday

Reporters: Alex and Katya

Awesome baby!!!! We started our day off with writing. Miss Martin said "We got mail!" She opened up the mailbox and we got our pen pal letters!!!!! We were so excited!! We felt like we were at a party!! We read our letters and we checked out our awesome letters. They asked us questions. We wrote back and we answered their questions and even asked them questions too!! We made shamrocks to put them on the back of our pen pal letters for St. Patrick's Day! Some people used googly eyes, and made arms and legs for their shamrock faces! We had gym and music. May 5th is our musical performance. We were told that we need to stand in certain spots on the bleachers. In gym we played a game where we knocked over pins! It was so cool! In social studies we worked on our posters. Urban, suburban, and rural were the topics. We talked about how suburban and urban were different. Suburban has a lot of trees. Urban only has a little trees because it is surrounded by buildings! We finished and were able to present them to the class! It was an awesome Tuesday! It was a great day!

Here is some examples of the shamrocks for our pen pal letters!

Here is a group working hard on their urban poster!

We had school today!!!!! Yesterday we had reading. First, we did guided reading. The green group went first. There were seperate centers. The first center was the writing center. We had to write a personal narratives. Then we did reading centers. We selected two fiction stories and compared and contrasted them. In the groups, we made ice cream cones about our story! Each scoop had a different meaning. Chocolate was the problem in the story, the strawberry was the important events, and the vanilla was the solution. We had a wonderful snack. After reading, we did math. In math we learned about measuring yards, inches, and centimeters. We measured our name tags and our desks!! Then we had a fantastic lunch. We were very hungry!! At recess, someone almost got hit by a soccer ball!! After lunch, we came in and had social studies. We were learning about rural, urban, and suburban areas. We started making our posters about each area. After social studies we went to the library. Shhhhhhhh!! We read Bad Kitty Takes a Bath. We kept working on our posters when we got back to the classroom. That was a really, really, really, really, fun day at school!

GO HALEY!!
