Reading

RAH

Read for at least 20 minutes.
There is no other homework in reading or math today.

Today we listened to a new story - Rumpelstiltskin and talked about the events in it. We also worked with number patterns in math.

In the afternoon, students made their own class yearbooks and collected signatures from friends and teachers.

Tomorrow is all school picnic. Please, bring lunch from home if you did not order a picnic lunch.

Tuesday is "Zero Full Days of School Left" Day because on Wednesday students come for only 1/2 an hour (from 9:00 to 9:30). On Wednesday students will receive their report cards. Buses will pick students up to go home at 9:30.

Read for at least 60 minutes.

There is no other homework in reading or math today. We had a nice surprise party today since one of the students was leaving for vacation. We also started cleaning out the desks so students don't have to wait until Tuesday to bring all the supplies back home.

We had an extra-long recess today as well.


In the afternoon, students had Discovery Science, which was a review of everything they learned in the program this year.

Monday is Yearbook Day. Please, bring your yearbook to get it signed by teachers and all your friends.

Read for at least 20 minutes.
There is no other homework in reading today. Students were working on rewriting their letters to the pen pals in Turkey. Some students are done; others will need to finish tomorrow.

Math

There is no homework in math today. We spent the whole afternoon playing games and having a friendly competition in water balloon toss, potato sack races, obstacle course and other fun activities.

Friday is Extra Recess Day. We will take advantage of the nice weather and play for a few extra minutes on the playgroud.

There is no other homework in reading today. We are working on a surprise for the parents that involves recording students' stories.

Students also read the letters they received from their pen pals in Turkey and began to write their responses. Some students already completed the responses, but others need to finish writing their letters at home.


Math

There is no homework in math today.

Thursday is Workout Day. Please, wear your gym shoes to school, have a water bottle and put some sunscreen on to have fun outside from 1:15 to 3:15.

There is no other homework in reading today. The last group performed their parts in the reader's theater today. All students did a good job on it.


Math

There is no homework in math today. Graded Unit 10 tests were returned today, and we went over the answers. Please, ask your child to show you the test so you can see how well he or she did on it.

Wednesday is Very Crazy Hair Day. Use your imagination and come up with the most original idea of a hairdo for tomorrow.

There is no other homework in reading today. Students did a great job performing their parts in the reader's theater.


Math

There is no homework in math today as students took their final Unit 10 Test today. Graded tests will be returned on Tuesday.

Science

Graded science tests were returned today. Ask your child about his or her test.

Tomorrow is an Institute Day for all teachers; therefore, there is no school for children.

Tuesday is Unbirthday Day. We will celebrate the birthdays of students who have a summer birthday.

Choose 4 of the new words we learned today and write sentences with them.

Math

Finish the review packet and go over it to make sure you understand all the concepts in it. Unit 10 Test will be given tomorrow.

Science

Students took their science test on body systems today. Their graded tests will be returned tomorrow.

Thursday is twin day. You and your friend can dress in the same way to look like twins.

There is no other homework in reading as students took their spelling test as well as Weekly Test in robust vocabulary, grammar and comprehension today.

Math

Today we began reviewing Unit 10. We will continue reviewing tomorrow before the test, which will be given on Thursday. Students can go over their review packet - "How Am I Doing?", but there is no homework in math today.

Science

Review the information on the 2 body systems you have been studying for the last 2 days, in preparation for the science test, which you will take tomorrow.


Wednesday is Sixties Day. Wear your favorite tie-dye shirt or clothes in the '60s style.

Practice the spelling words for the spelling test, which will be given tomorrow. Reread the story "One Small Place in a Tree" and review the robust vocabulary in preparation for the Weekly Test, which students will also take tomorrow.

Tuesday is Reuse, Reduce and Recycle Day. Use plastic containers instead of plastic bags to pack your lunch tomorrow.

There is no other homework in reading today since we had an assembly today during our regular reading time. We watched Cooper Chorus perform. They did a fantastic job singing.

Monday is Quiet Day. We will see if students are up to the challenge to remain silent in the hallways as well as in the classroom during instructional time.

There is no homework in reading or math today since it is No Homework Day at Poe. However, students still need to prepare for the test in science. Tomorrow students will take a test on the 2 body systems they have been studying in their science class.


Thursday is Outside Day. If it does not rain, the class might go outside to read for a few minutes.

There is no other homework in reading today since students took tests on main idea and details. These tests are not for a grade. The purpose of the tests is to see the progress in students' understanding of stories.

Math

There is no homework in math today either as we did not have our regular math class today. Instead, students had Discovery Science.


Wednesday is No Homework Day. There will be no homework in any of the classes. However, students will need to prepare for the test in science. On Thursday students will be tested on their knowledge of the two body systems they have been studying in their science class.
